Browse current events, keeping the following characteristics in mind: 

  • Events in the news from the last 12 months
  • Debatable issues
  • Significant events (social, political, economic, environmental, etc.)

Consider Potential Topics

Step One: Make a list of Potential Topics

  • Open the Opposing Viewpoints database linked below.
  • Look at the list of debatable topics.

  • Create a list of topics that might be of interest to you.

  • On your notes from today's opening, list at least five topics you will explore today. You are welcome to write more, if you'd like. 

Explore Current Events

Step Two: Find information about Current Events

  • Open InfoTrac Newsstand (linked below)

  • Begin by reading about a variety of current events (from the last 12 months).

  • Narrow your search results to the last 12 months by using the “Publication Dates” feature at the right of your screen (narrow your search to the last 12 months)

  • Eventually you will select a topic relating to the current event and narrow your focus, but for today's purposes, browse a variety of events.

  • You will have direct access to the Robinson databases while in school

Step Three: Read the Articles and Take Notes

  • Log in to your teacher’s Google Classroom.

  • Open the Google Doc for this assignment.

  • Take notes as you read - What questions come to mind? What events draw your attention?
