Choice Reading Unit - Selecting Your Book
Learning Targets:
Today I will explore books in order to find titles of interest for the English 10, choice reading unit. I will know I'm successful when I find books I might want to read.
Directions: Explore the titles in each station and complete the note sheet during our activities (you will receive a paper copy of this note sheet). You are welcome to borrow books from Robinson's Library or The Fairfax County Public Library (even if you don't have a library card, you may borrow books using your FCPS student ID).
Text Requirements - Please select a text that meets the following requirements:
1) A choice book; something you haven't already read
2) You have access to the text (via RBSS' library, The Public Library, or from your home)
3) The text is approved by your teacher
4) Your parent or guardian deems the text acceptable
If you would like additional information about a book, feel free to ask your librarian or investigate the title, using the library catalog, Amazon, or Google. Enjoy!
Robinson Library Catalog
Directions: In this station, you will have ten minutes to browse the library catalog, by topic. Keep track of the books you review and track the following in your notes:
Click the image below to examine some new titles, available through Robinson's library Catalog. Add the "published" filter (top right of the screen, under "sort by") for the most recent books.
Robinson Library - eBooks
Directions: For the final station, you will need to open MackinVIA (Robinson Library's eReader platform) and browse the "Groups" found within. Click the image below to access MackinVIA; please remember to login using your FCPS credentials.
You will have five minutes to examine the titles, keep track of the books you review, track the following in your notes:
Station One: Table Browse
Directions: You will have 15 minutes in this station for the speed dating style book browse. You will not need your laptop for this station. Every three minutes, the librarian will announce it is time to move. Please track the following on your note sheet:
