Activity #1 - Open the links and read about Shakespeare's Life & Elizabethan times

  1. Read THIS article to learn some of the basic facts OR click around on THIS site.
  2. Click HERE for additional "Fast Facts on Shakespeare's Life" (be sure to use the arrows at the bottom of each screen).
  3. Care to learn more? Open THIS database (use the database password for GALE) and search for Shakespeare.

 

Consider taking notes on topics of interest, including the following:

  • Dates (Birth, Marriage, & Death)

  • Information about his family, including is his wife and children

  • Information about his birthplace and London during his time period

  • Shakespeare's career

  • The role of theatre during Shakespeare's time

  • Shakespeare’s London: What was the population? Who was the Queen? How long did she reign? Who succeeded her and when?

Activity #3 - Sketch & Label Shakespeare's Globe

On a blank sheet of paper, create the following: 

1) Draw Shakespeare's Theatre 

2) Label some of the elements using the Key, found HEREYou may want to include some of the following: 

  • Heaven, Earth, and Hell
  • The Groundlings or Penny Stinkards
  • Make note of the flag color as it relates to the plays of Comedy, Tragedy, and History
  • What time of day were the performances? Why?
