Survey Basics

  • Define your purpose of the survey
  • Know your analysis plan to ensure you receive the correct data
  • Include instructions, keep it simple
  • Grouping data - ask for exact points now, group it yourself later
  • Ask specific questions
  • Make it anonymous
  • Ask 1 question at a time
  • Test your questions
  • Keep in mind:
    • Measures of accuracy - ask for estimates and averages
    • Bias in self reporting

In your introduction

If you used a survey, include the following when you write your introduction:

    • Online
    • In-person
      • What was the actual location(s) that you conducted the survey
  • How did you conduct the survey?
    • Survey Monkey or another online survey option
    • Verbally
    • Written questions
  • Who conducted the survey?
  • Who responded?
