Algebra 1 - Data Collection and Regression: Google Sheet Directions

This guide direct students to sites to gather data to create a linear regression graph and answer questions about their results.

Google Sheets Directions

Algebra 1 Statistical Analysis

You have been asked to analyze data and prove whether a relationship exists between two variables of your choosing.  One method for doing that is to create a chart using Google Sheets and using a Trendline or Line or Curve of Best Fit to make your determination.

ANSWER #1 & #2

Input 10-20 data points for both

Create a scatterplot of your data.

  • Highlight the 2 columns with your data
  • Insert Chart
  • Change Chart Type to Scatterplot…
  • Customize Chart and Axis Titles – Type in your titles

ANSWER #3

Add the line of best fit to your graph.

  • Double click on your graph.
  • Go to Customize on the Chart Editor
  • Under Series, add a check to Trendline
    • Choose the type of regression you think works best with your graph - stick with Linear or Polynomial
    • Under Label, choose Equation
    • Click the box to show R^2
