Of Mice and Men - Then and Now Research 

Initially you conducted research to help learn about 1930s U.S. society, as social context for the novel Of Mice and Men. Today you will spend the class period researching some of the same topics as they relate to current society. 

Essential questions

  • How have we progressed as a society since the 1930s? What protections are in place for people in the U.S.? 
  • Where do we still need to make progress? What protections are still needed? 

2022 Research - Treatment of Individuals in Society

Today's Learning Targets: 

  • Today I will conduct research relating to my group's topic in order to read and learn about the treatment of individuals in modern society. 
  • I'll know I'm successful when I formulate an argument that addresses our essential questions.

Directions:

1. Take ten minutes to complete the "Connections" portion of your notes from the initial library research days.

2. Next, use the materials below to complete the 3-2-1; be prepared to share your thinking with the class.

  • Newsela Article - Open the following Newsela Article and read it as a class. Select a golden line from the article and be prepared to share it. 

3. Discuss as a Group - How does this activity connect to today's research goals? What protections are in place for people in the U.S.? What protections are still needed?
