Image Analysis - Choice Topics

Now it's your turn! You will select an image to analyzelearn about the topic relating the image by reading a topic overview, and analyze the perspectives relating to the image.

 

You will know you are successful when you understand: 

  • Pictures don't tell the full story; 
  • Narratives can be skewed with an author's biased perspective; 
  • News organizations do not always include all the facts in their reporting; 
  • It is best to seek information from both sides of an issue before formulating your own opinion.

Step One:

  1. Select one of the pictures below on which to focus. 
  2. Complete questions one through three on the Image Study Student Note Sheet (see Google Classroom for details).

To select a choice image and topic, use one of the databases linked below. 

Read and Take Notes on the following:

  1. Read the caption or citation about the specific image.
  2. Click the image below and read the brief overview of this topic; complete the "Topic Overview" section of your notes.
  3. Next, read at least two articles, one from each perspective, and complete the note sheet (in Google Classroom). 
    • Consider: How does the author's bias affect what they write? How do the different narratives impact your understanding of the issue?
