The Discussion

Purpose

The discussion of a scholarly article generally includes a description of how the study contributes to the existing body of research, an analysis of the research questions and hypotheses, and a discussion of the research in connection to the real world. In this station, you will scan the discussion and consider the real world implications of this experiment.   

Real World Implications

 Task #1: 

  1. Scroll to the Discussion section of the article (click HERE if you need the link again). 
  2. As a group, complete the following steps: 
    • Read the topic sentences of each paragraph aloud. 
    • Find a paragraph that will help you discuss the larger, real world implications of this study. 
    • Read that paragraph out loud as a group. 
    • Note: If the selected paragraph does not contain the information you need, select another paragraph. 

Task #2: 

​Individually, complete the "Discussion" section of your handout: What is one application of this experiment (how it could be used in real life)?
